Stress Supplements – Nourish Your Adrenal Glands!
I spend quite a lot of time writing and speaking about the importance of healthy adrenal glands. I see patients every day with stress related illnesses, and most have never heard about the adrenal glands. My TOP Stress Supplements:
A restorative mineral, and important for adrenal recovery. Helps calm the nervous system. Useful for insomnia, anxiety, high blood pressure, cramping, and restlessness. I often recommend magnesium bisglycinate, as it is more bioavailable and easier on the bowels at higher dosages.
Our adrenal antioxidant! We utilize a huge amount of Vitamin C when we are stressed so it’s very important to supplement during times of chronic stress. Vitamin C also supports a strong immune system which often is compromised when we are stressed out.
Absolutely essential, B vitamins are utilized very rapidly during trauma, or a stressful event. Supplement with at least 50 mg of all B Vitamins, especially B5 and B6.
One of my favorites for anxiety and a hyper excitable brain. For those of you who worry, think too much and can’t seem to “turn off” your mind at night: Gaba is the supplement for you!
There are many adrenal formulas that exist, but I find AdrenaSense very gentle and efficacious for my patients with stress, fatigue, poor coping, and insomnia. It consists of herbs such as Rhodiola, Suma, Siberian ginseng Schizandra and Ashwangandha, all of which help the body adapt and cope better with stress.
The good bacteria that reside in our gut are often depleted when we are stressed, which is why we often suffer from irritable bowel symptoms when we are under stressful conditions. Probiotics will help those good bacteria flourish.
Adrenal glandular formulas can also be very beneficial for those of you who are in the severely adrenally exhausted state. They are often prescribed as complimentary with many of the above vitamins.
