16 Infused Water Ideas to Amp up your Hydration this Summer

As the weather begins to get warmer and we are spending more and more time outside, it's more important than ever to stay hydrated.

As I will be covering in our Foundations for Health highlight this month, water and hydration are absolutely vital for our overall health.

Just to briefly touch in, staying well hydrated can help with everything from your sleep quality, your hormones, your weight, your energy levels, your brainpower, your digestion, your immune system, and more.

If you want to incentivize yourself to drink more water, these infused water recipes make hydration YUMMY.

The Basics of Making Infused Water

  1. USE ORGANIC INGREDIENTS- As you’ll be soaking your fruit, vegetables, or herbs in your water, you want to use the highest quality organic ingredients wherever possible. If you can’t get organic, make sure you wash the produce well and peel off any skin or rind.

  2. SLICE THINLY OR MUDDLE- For fruit and vegetables, you’ll want to slice them as thinly as possible to allow more flavour to infuse. For herbs or things like blueberries, it’s good to muddle them first to bring out the flavour.

  3. USE A GLASS CONTAINER- A Glass Pitcher, Mason Jar, or even a big old pickle jar work great to infuse your water. Avoid plastic containers as some can leech chemicals.

  4. GIVE IT SOME TIME- You’ll need to let your water infuse for at least 4 hours, but best results are overnight. Bonus if you can let it infuse in the sunlight as the sun warming the fruit will help the flavour infuse more.

  5. YES, YOU CAN EAT THE FRUIT- However, it won’t be as flavourful after sitting in water overnight. I prefer to make another batch using the same fruit. While some recipes last longer, it’s best to drink within 24 hours as a rule of thumb.
