11 Chinese Inspired Recipes for Chinese New Year

The Year of the Water Tiger is here. February 1st marked the Lunar New Year (Chinese New Year) which is celebrated by around 2 billion people worldwide. 


The Tiger brings energy of accomplishment, success in challenges, and moving straight forward on the path, whereas the Water element brings calm, emotional depth, and family focus. 


Whatever the year of the Water Tiger will mean for you, I thought it would be fun to collect some Chinese inspired recipes to enjoy during this time of celebration, or throughout the year for some delicious and nourishing flavours. 


My mom is part Chinese, so these recipes and traditions are close to my heart. On Chinese New Year's Eve we always get together as a family and have Chinese hot pot with my parents.

This is a popular dish anytime of the year but especially around Chinese New Year.

8 is the number representing good fortune. Vegetarian, and any protein can easily be added if desired



Turnip Cake (Lo Bok Go) 


This savoury cake is served throughout the year but is popular on Chinese New Year to symbolise prosperity. My mom makes this every year on Chinese New Year’s Eve and it is SO delicious.
