Healthy Detox Smoothie
This Christmas my husband and I received the new Nutribullet blender. All I can say is … I love it! So this week I have been experimenting with different smoothie recipes especially for cleansing and detox, as I’m sure some of you will be starting a clean eating program after this holiday’s festivities!
One of my favorites this week:
- 1 scoop of Organic Sprouted Brown Rice protein powder
- A handful of mixed kale, spinach and swiss chard
- 3-4 slices of cucumber
- ¼ cup of blueberries
- ¼ banana
- ½ an apple
- ¼ avocado
- A few leaves of mint and parsley
- ½ cup of coconut water
- ½ cup of almond milk
- Top it off with filtered water if needed.
Combine all ingredients into a blender, VItaMix, or Nutribullet.
Enjoy!
Leafy Greens
Excellent for the detoxification of bad hormones, cancer prevention and reducing inflammation. Also packed with essential vitamins and minerals – calcium, Vitamin C, K, A, manganese and fiber.
Cucumber
Hydrating, mineral dense and a great source of Vitamin K.
Blueberries
One of the most antioxidant-rich foods you can eat; the blue color comes from its polyphenols (anthocyanidins), which provide most of the antioxidant properties. They are also rich in Vitamin C.
Banana
Rich in vitamin B6, C, manganese and potassium. But also high in sugar so limit the amount you add to your smoothie especially if you are adding in other fruits.
Apples
Excellent source of fiber that helps bind toxins and balances blood sugars. Apples also contain D-glucarate and flavonoids that help with inflammation and support detox pathways.
Avocado
Great source of good fat! Avocados also add that creamy texture to your smoothie. They provide 18 essential amino acids, potassium, vitamin C, folate, zinc and carotenoids. The good fats also support heart health and are anti-inflammatory.
Mint
Excellent for digestive woes, antimicrobial and a rich source of vitamin C, A (beta-carotene) and manganese.
Parsley
A rich source of anti-oxidants - Vitamin C, A, and folic acid. Great digestive aid, helps to purify the blood and stimulate the bowels and is a great natural breath freshener.
Coconut water
Great after a hard workout, full of potassium and other electrolytes, very hydrating and low glycemic!
Almonds
Alkalizers, balance blood sugar, an excellent source of protein, boost brain function, heart health and strong bones.
